Talents & Interests

As parents we need to help our children develop their talents and foster their interests so they can learn more of what our Heavenly Father has blessed them with.
Heavenly Father has given us all talents and gifts that can help us provide for ourselves and our families. Learning to recognize our talents and gifts—and interests—is an important first step in career preparation. -Bishop David H Burton
There are a few problems I'm finding as a parent. First, things are expensive. If you child wants to try many different things, your forking out a ton of $$! Second, is a serious lack of time. We live in such a busy and fast paced world that just fitting things in is a challenge.

Something that Matthew is trying out this year that is free at the school and hasn't eaten in to too much time, is chess club. It has been 2 days a week after school for 1 hour and then 1 Saturday morning each month for a tournament. None of it is required, we did pay for him a Tshirt, but it was also not required.
Matthew has loved it. He is learning a new skill, forming friendships outside of his own class and grade, and building confidence.
Yesterday was one crazy day. So, we sent Benjamin with Matthew for the morning of playing chess.
Matthew came away with a 9th place trophy and a fun morning.

I need to recommit to piano lessons with Emma and Benjamin. They both have expressed an interest and Benjamin is doing very well at school on the trumpet. I just need to suck up and teach them myself or find someone locally (which I haven't been able to do as of yet!).
